Hi, I am Jessica Gill

Welcome to Emerald Counselling and Consulting

Hello, I am Jessica Gill, the founder of Emerald Counselling and Consulting. As a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with Distinction and over a decade of diverse experience in mental health and substance use roles, I am here to guide you on your path to well-being.

About Me:

My counselling journey began with a heartfelt commitment to making a positive impact. Building on a solid foundation, which includes a practicum at Simon Fraser University Health and Counselling Services, I have cultivated a wealth of expertise to help you navigate life’s challenges. Over the course of my career, I have worked extensively with both adults and youth dealing with substance use, as well as with clients affected by its far-reaching effects. Moreover, I have had the privilege of supporting Indigenous families in Alberta and British Columbia through partnerships with the Ministry of Child and Family Services. Additionally, my professional experience spans roles with a health authority and a school district, where I concentrated on addressing mental health and substance abuse issues. Consequently, I bring a comprehensive and compassionate approach to supporting individuals through life’s challenges.

Comprehensive Counselling Services:

At Emerald Counselling and Consulting, we deeply care about our client’s well-being. Recognizing that seeking help can feel daunting, we work hard to create a safe, non-judgmental space where you can feel empowered to make positive changes. Furthermore, our services include one-on-one and couples counselling sessions tailored to support your unique goals. In addition, we offer educational workshops and consultation services, ensuring a holistic approach to addressing your needs.

A Personal Touch:

My commitment to this field stems from my experience volunteering at a drop-in centre for women. There, I witnessed the transformative power of providing a safe space for individuals to be heard. Since then, I have carried this dedication into my counselling practice, fostering meaningful relationships and acknowledging the unique experiences that shape your life. I am committed to creating a space where you feel valued and understood.

Empowering Positive Change:

As trained and experienced counsellors, we provide evidence-based therapy approaches designed to help you address your challenges and meet your needs. Together, we will work to identify your strengths, build resiliency, and develop practical tools for navigating life’s complexities. Consequently, my ultimate goal is to offer a safe and non-judgmental environment where you can explore your thoughts and feelings, moving toward a more fulfilling and balanced life.

Your Journey to Healing and Growth:

We understand that seeking counselling services is a significant step, and we are committed to making that journey as smooth and supportive as possible. At Emerald Counselling and Consulting, our professional and welcoming approach empowers you to find the solutions you need. Above all, we are dedicated to helping you navigate life’s challenges and supporting you on your journey toward healing and growth.

Counselling Process

Appointment

You must complete an intake form to start the counselling process. This form gives the counsellors an understanding of your background and the issues you are experiencing. Once submitted, then schedule a first meeting with the counsellor, which is a free 15-minute session.

Initial consultation

During the session, the counsellor will collect information about the client's history, current challenges, and counselling goals. We aim to comprehensively understand your concerns and suggest appropriate services and treatment options to meet your needs.

Treatment Plan

Once the initial consultation is complete and the client and counsellor agree to work together, the next step is creating a treatment plan. This plan will outline the goals of counselling and the strategies the counsellor will use to help the client achieve those goals. The counsellor will collaborate with the client to identify any issues causing distress, which may involve discussing thoughts, feelings, and behaviours and exploring underlying causes or contributing factors. Based on these identified issues, the counsellor and client will set realistic and achievable goals that are specific, measurable, and relevant to the client's needs.

Implementing the plan

The counsellor will support the client and implement the treatment plan, providing guidance and feedback as needed. The client may be asked to complete tasks or homework between sessions to help them achieve their goals.

Evaluating progress

Throughout the counselling process, the counsellor will regularly assess the client’s progress toward their goals. This helps to ensure that the counselling is effective and that the client is making positive changes in their life.

Termination

Once a client has achieved their goals, or if they decide to end the counselling relationship, the counsellor will work with the client to develop a plan for maintaining their progress. This may involve creating a support network or developing ongoing coping strategies.

Schedule

an initial appointment with the counsellor and fill out an intake form. The intake form helps counsellors learn about their client’s backgrounds and understand the client’s presenting issues.

Termination

once a client has achieved their goals, or if they decide to end the counselling relationship, the counsellor will work with the client to develop a plan for maintaining their progress. This may involve creating a support network or developing ongoing coping strategies.

It is important to note that the counselling process is collaborative, with the client and counsellor working together to achieve the client’s goals. The counsellor is there to provide support, guidance, and expertise, but the client is ultimately responsible for their growth and progress.

Initial consultation

At the initial consultation session during this session, the counsellor will gather information about the client’s history, current challenges, and goals for counselling. We aim to comprehensively understand your concerns and suggest appropriate services and treatment options to meet your needs.

Treatment Plan

After the initial session, the next step is developing a treatment plan if the client and counsellor agree to work together. The treatment plan outlines the goals of counselling and the strategies the counsellor used to help the client achieve those goals.

How Therapy Works For You

  • Counselling is a collaborative process between counsellors around the client, aimed at helping them explore and understand their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours and develop strategies to address challenges and achieve their goals. It can be done individually or in a group setting and can be short-term or long-term, depending on the client’s needs. Counselling can be helpful for a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief and loss, trauma, and personal growth and development.
  • It is important to find a counsellor you feel comfortable with and who has the expertise and experience to help you achieve your goals.
  • Initially, it is common to feel uncomfortable.
  • Embarking on the counselling journey can be emotionally taxing, so it is important to prioritize self-care. It might get harder before it gets better.
  • The benefits of counselling may not be immediately apparent, as most of the work happens between sessions by applying strategies and techniques learned in counselling to your everyday life. Progress may take some time, but positive change can be achieved with consistent practice and commitment.
  • You feel comfortable and at ease with your counsellor.
  • Your counsellor listens actively and empathically to your concerns.
  • Your counsellor respects your values, beliefs, and opinions.
  • You feel understood, validated, and supported by your counsellor.
  • Your counsellor collaborates with you to set goals for your counselling sessions.
  • Your counsellor provides you with helpful feedback, guidance, and strategies. They will not tell you what you should do but will collaborate with you to identify and implement the best course of action.
  • You feel motivated and encouraged to continue working towards your goals.
